These fish can live in tropical, temperate, and cold waters. They are found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans and some have been spotted in the Mediterranean. The swordfish’s diet is made of squid, gadids, scombrids, butterfish, bluefish, and sand lance.
Fun facts: If prey is too big for the swordfish it will just slash it in half with its sword. Swordfish have special organs next to their eyes that keep their brain and their eyes warm in cold water. The largest swordfish ever caught weighed 1,182 pounds. It’s believed that they may grow as large as 14 feet long and 1,400 pounds.
